I don’t know about you, but if I’m real quiet and close my eyes, I can almost smell the spruce tree, nutmeg & peppermint mochas.  That means one thing: IT’S ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!! (21 days to be exact.)
When I think about Christmas and what it’s really all about, one word comes to mind: Hope. Christmas is a time where we celebrate the hope that came when Jesus was born. We find hope in many places, but only Jesus provides real, lasting, and life-changing hope.
In our new series Hope., we’re going to be taking a look at how Jesus has ALWAYS been hope, is our hope today, and will be the hope of the world for all of time!

Jesus was ALWAYS God’s plan for hope in this world. #HopeClick To Tweet

This weekend, we’re going to take a look at how God was pointing to Jesus as the hope of the world long before He was born.
In fact, if you look into the Old Testament, you will find scripture after scripture that paints a picture of the Savior that is coming to set all things right again. You can’t help but read these passages and see the hope that is woven throughout.
Take a look at what was promised in the Old Testament:

Jeremiah 23:5
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

People were encouraged to look forward, to be expectant of this King who was coming. There are many scriptures that serve as prophecies about the coming of Jesus, our great hope.
Take a look at these prophecies & where they were fulfilled in scripture:

Jesus will come from the line of Abraham. Prophecy: Genesis 12:3. Fulfilled: Matthew 1:1.
Jesus will be born in the town of Bethlehem. Prophecy: Micah 5:2. Fulfilled: Luke 2:1-7.
Jesus will enter the temple. (This is important because the temple was destroyed in A.D. 70 & was never rebuilt.) Prophecy: Malachi 3:1. Fulfilled: Luke 2:25-27.
Jesus will live a perfect life, die by crucifixion, resurrect from death, ascend into heaven, and sit at the right hand of God. Prophecy: Psalm 22:16, 16:10, 68:18, 110:1. Fulfilled: 1 Peter 2:21-22; Luke 23:33; Acts 2:25-32; Hebrews 1:3.

(Check out the whole list here.)
After reading all of this, there is only one conclusion we can come to: Jesus was ALWAYS God’s plan for hope in this world.
Join us this weekend as we dig into all of this and find that Jesus has always been, and will always be our only hope.
